Yamaha MC-21
The Yamaha MC-21 opens the brand's MC lineup at the entry level. Its 1.7 mV output plugs into a standard MM phono input without a step up transformer. The elliptical stylus tracks from 1.5 to 2.1 g with 1.8 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so a worn diamond goes out for retipping.

The Yamaha MC-21 is a forgiving, easy-listening MC whose high-output design keeps surface noise well tamed and smooths over grain without turning aggressive on busy material. Dynamics carry decent life without hard-edged transients, vocals stay natural rather than clinical, and bass anchors rock and jazz with enough weight. Long relaxed sessions on modest to mid systems suit it best. The elliptical stylus is integrated, so wear leads to a retip.
