Pickering TL-1
The Pickering TL-1 opens the American TL line at the entry level. This MM cartridge pairs an elliptical stylus with a 4.4 mV output for any standard MM phono input. Its light 0.75 to 1.5 g tracking force is gentle on records. The replaceable stylus is the DTL-1, and Phono Culture lists 5 compatible replacement styli.
The Pickering TL-1 leans toward a relaxed, non-fatiguing presentation rather than forensic detail. Vocals come through with natural, rounded warmth and bass stays gently full-bodied without digging deep for texture, while the elliptical stylus keeps tracking friendly on well-worn records. Casual jazz, pop and vintage collections suit it more than critical scrutiny. The stylus is replaceable, and DTL-2 and DTL-3 inserts physically fit the same body.
