Ortofon 2M Red
The Ortofon 2M Red is a moving magnet cartridge that feeds any standard MM phono input thanks to its healthy 5.5 mV output. Its elliptical stylus profile tracks best between 1.6 and 2.0 g, with 1.8 g quoted as the nominal setting. The replaceable insert is named Stylus 2M Red, and Phono Culture lists 1 compatible replacement stylus for this model. Entry-level turntables commonly ship with it.

The midrange comes through smooth and natural, vocals sit forward without harshness, and bass stays controlled rather than overblown. Detail retrieval is solid without turning clinical, which keeps long sessions fatigue-free across genres. The stylus is user-replaceable, so refreshing a worn tip later is straightforward.
