[Test Note] Check Empire 2000E/III on my setup
Denon DL-80
The Denon DL-80 offers an entry point into MC cartridges at the entry level of the range. Its 1.6 mV output is high enough for a standard MM phono input without a transformer. The elliptical stylus tracks from 1.5 to 2.1 g with 1.8 g nominal. The factory stylus goes by the DSN-80 designation in the catalogue.
The Denon DL-80 leans toward a forgiving, easy-to-live-with balance rather than a forensic one. Detail and imaging hold solid without turning aggressive, vocals stay natural and unforced, and bass carries enough body to keep the groove moving without bloat. Gently rounded dynamics make it a relaxed match for jazz, vocal records and long, fatigue-free sessions on modestly resolving systems.
